Jingles

It was a 1975 hospitalization that prompted Jingles' conversion to vegetarianism.
Having lived for 21 years in Venice California, he decided to create his
"Meat is Murder" booth five years ago to educate the public about vegetarianism
and the horrors of slaughterhouses. This Philadelphia native became politically
active through demonstrations against vivisection and McDonald's. |
When he isn't
standing on his chairs yelling through a megaphone,
Jingles attracts
attention with the help of his friend.
How
would you describe yourself?
I'm vegan.
I abstain from animal products, which includes meat and dairy, and also
honey. I don't wear any leather, and I try to wear organic cotton. I guess
I'm sort of a hypocrite because I'm walking on the cement, and there's
blood and asphalt in the cement, so I do as good as I can. I try to make
people aware about what happens in a slaughterhouse.
What
is a typical day for you?
I get up in
the morning and I go to the toilet, you know. Then I go out and drink my
orange juice. I come out here, and I meet a lot of people that work in
slaughterhouses and kill animals. |
How
do you see yourself in 20 years?
I'm not into
the future, I'm in the right now with you. How do I see the earth? Will
slaughterhouses be here 20 years from now? I believe that slaughterhouses
will be looked upon as we now look upon Nazi death camps that killed millions
of Jews. I think that a few of them will be saved for our children to look
at as citadels of death, the ones we did to animals. We actually did this. |

Did
you have any problems with McDonald's?
A large portion
of my booth is against McDonald's cause of their crimes against humanity,
against animals, and against people and the earth. People are probably
seeing this article and thinking that I'm one of these animal rights activists,
these pro-animals, but it's not so. I mean, whether it's vivisection or
the killing of animals in slaughterhouses, it basically ends up being a
human environmental issue. The whole earth, and then millions of people
around the world are also affected by the power of these multinational
corporations: McDonald's makes up to 27 billion dollars a year, and they
do it by deception, through lies, and any way they can. I focus on Big
Brother, you know? I don't just target McDonald's, I am targeting the U.S.
government, which gives $250 thousand to the company a year! This is my
new shirt: 'McGarbage.' My most popular shirt is 'Mc Shit.' I don't really
consider McDonald's golden arch a trademark, I consider it a fascist swastika
or statement of powers that be. Multinational corporations like McDonald's
are into control. They're such an obvious presence, their presence is like
the Pope or the Catholic church. I'm giving to people the same thing McDonald's
gives them. It's a quick image; a quick look, like a subliminal message.
When they go home and they cut on That animal, when they cut open that
steak, they're going to be thinking about that display board and about
me.
What
is your funniest memory?
I don't know
if it's funny, but once I met two guys that were whale killers from Norway.
They were real bastards, man! They were wearing a shirt that said 'We kill
whales for fun, only 88,999 to go, with a dead whale with blood spurting
out and stuff. That really pissed me off. I just f-n' screamed at them,
"Get the f- out of my face!" and I told them to go to hell. They were laughing.
They were walking down the boardwalk wearing these f-n' shirts, man.
What
do you think about this society?
There's a
lot of fear in this society, that's why people have dogs. The government
is in control, it's a power trip, and that's what we're battling. I'm basically
your friendly peaceful anarchist, and my battle is not only the meat issue,
my battle is a government issue. This is all sanctioned by the government.
I just want people to take charge of their lives and question more. We
should basically dismantle all these f-n' governments. They are infecting
this earth! We all want a cleaner world, a less violent world. We Want
a world without all these slaughterhouses, especially. In the United States
there's 6,200 slaughter plants- can you imagine that? A rounded-off figure
of animals murdered in the United States is like 8 or 9, maybe 10 billion
animals- that's a lot! It's an incessant flow of blood, and torture, and
murder, and sacrifice that is not necessary. All it's doing is lowering
the minds and thoughts and hearts of these governments, controllers. They're
destroying America and the rest of the world. |
When your
testosterone level increases, you see people getting in fights with other
people- like OJ, imagine what he ate when he killed those people. His testosterone
flared up. He was a big meat-eater, and in fact, he owns eight Honey Baked
Hams and six Pioneer Chickens- did you know that?
What
do you think about human nature?
I think it's
not good. I think multinationals and governments do a good job in brainwashing
and mind control. Like McDonald's use of children. Children are basically
very vulnerable, very sensitive, and they're brought up to love animals,
but only until their parents put a rifle in their hands to take them hunting-
then they teach them to kill and love at the same time. They teach them
to kill deer and then they go and pet another animal, a dog or a cat. So
if you love animals, why do you eat animals for dinner? Ronald McDonald
is utilized just that way. He's used for television. There's a Ronald McDonald
in every country. He's the main character, he's the clown. If you have
been to a circus, have you noticed how children are drawn to clowns? Well,
McDonald's knew this. When the clown came into play, they knew what they
were doing, there's no mistake. The clown has been around for years and
years, and so it's the worst point of deception. Children inherently love
animals, they do not want to hurt, they do not want to cause any suffering,
but McDonald's and the parents have reprogrammed them that it's OK
What
is your opinion about drugs?
I was with
a girlfriend years ago and we did some stuff, you know, substance abuse,
but I don't do it anymore. Now I'm a clean machine. And I don't steal,
maybe a grape or something... I don't take any more. I don't want to talk
about some of the things that I did... I used to be a shoplifter, believe
it or not, for years, and I got rid of a lot of the stuff I stole. I didn't
bring it back to the store... but those were those days [laughs]. Didn't
everybody shoplift at one time? [laughs] I did it for many years, though,
I think I was rebelling against my parents.
Anything
else you would like to say?
It needs to
get in people's face, because, every once in a while, you can't get someone
out of bed the right way, you throw cold water in their face and you wake
them up. That's what I'm doing, I'm throwing cold water in people's faces,
but I'm doing it slowly, you know, drop by drop.. |
